Step by Step

Test-Fit Dry

Hold the piece in place and mark its outline. Check it against adjacent ornament for alignment.

Prep Both Surfaces

Sand the mounting surface lightly and wipe the back of the carving. Clean wood glues; dusty wood doesn't.

Glue & Pin

Wood glue (or construction adhesive for resin and compo) on the back, press into position, and pin with 18- or 23-gauge brads at low points in the relief.

Fill & Finish

Fill pin holes with matching filler, sand flush, and stain or paint with the surrounding work. For stain, sample on the back first — species and carved grain take color differently.

Care & Handling

Unfinished wood should be finished soon after installation. Dust carved relief with a soft brush; avoid soaking. Interior use unless otherwise noted.
